As AK is an Aussie, FJ (the Failure Journal) is super excited to report on the birth of weedy seadragons, which are apparently notoriously difficult to breed, at the New England Aquarium, in Boston, Massachusetts USA.
This success comes after more than a decade of trying to breed these marine animals. “After over a decade of trying and hoping, we were shocked but elated to see a male with a brood of eggs on his tail,” Galleries Manager Jeremy Brod said.
The weedy (also called common) seadragon (Phyllopteryx taeniolatus) is a relative of the seahorse that is found in Australian waters and is the marine emblem of the state of Victoria.
The survival rate in captivity for young weedy seadragons is roughly 60% in captivity. FJ wishes the seadragon bubs well!!
